Purpose of a Zig-Zag Transformer
A Zig-Zag transformer is not intended for voltage transformation, but for special system functions such as:
- Creating an artificial neutral point in ungrounded systems
- Neutral grounding using grounding resistors or reactors
- Reduction of harmonic currents, especially triplen harmonics
- Improving overall power system stability
- Protecting sensitive electrical equipment
